China In your Progress!!

Aqui está um artigo sobre Moda na China! http://www.stylites.net/

If Weibo (China’s twitter) is any gauge, the real style icon of the Lane Crawford x Opening Ceremony event this past Saturday was less Chloë Sevigny than aspiring actress Xin Yuan.  I posted this photo on Weibo on Sunday and it has already been passed on (@ed) 103 times.  This is, of course, just one of many photos circulating on Weibo of this young actress.  Her dress is designed by a Beijing-based brand called Chictopia.

I know there has been quite a lot here about Burberry, but it was the biggest event in the brand’s longish history and we had two people from Stylites taking photos.  The FT has a nice sum-up.  Burberry brought Keane, Prada brought the Petshop Boys a couple months ago.  Next, I hope some fashion brand will fly David Bowie out.  He is rather more important for fashion.
Anyway, let’s see who wasn’t wearing Burberry.  Above is GQ Fashion Editor Fashion Editor Dan Cui a high-collared shirt and a dotted Dior Homme jacket.
Photographer Sunny chose a “replica” Hermès scarf.  Her main purpose in coming to the event was seeing her favourite singer, Hong Kong star Eason Chan.  I wasn’t able to determine how many replicas of Burberry items there were at the event.

Many people were wearing the latest threads from Burberry. TheVogue EIC Angelica Cheung was wearing the exact same coat that night.
Many items seemed to be from the now available Spring 2011 collection, the theme of which was “heritage biker”. For this collection, designer Christopher Bailey was inspired by biker gear created by Thomas Burberry in the early 1900s. We will try to find out how many of these items are purchased at the full Mainland price.  For the time being, have a look at this piece our friends at JingDaily have on the price discrepancy between the Mainland and abroad.

Still quite a few more photos from the Burberry event…don’t know that I have ever seen a face that chiseled in China, but he keeps it real with bowl-cut.

Photographed above at the Burberry event, ghostly actress Fan Bingbing leads off a Jing Daily list of China’s growing number of “A-list” style icons garnering international attention for their dress sense.  Not one of these brand enveloped individuals has been on Stylites as it turns out.

It wasn’t just the usual fashion people: there were hipsters too. The grand event celebrating the opening of Burberry’s new flagship was at a venue not frequently used for fashion parties, Beijing Television Centre.  Featured was the British band Keane, performing for the first time in China. Jing Daily has more analysis on the digital component of the event.  You can see the video from the event just below.  This was the first time that Stylites featured live live streaming of an event. Here are Yitrends creator Alice McInerney and Polish radio Tomasz Sajewicz.

Sunny is an entrepreneur and general international man of mystery who makes all the fashion parties.

Spring has arrived and so have the British: Today, Burberry’s Chief Creative Officer Christopher Bailey will inaugurate one of the brand’s most technically advanced flagship stores at Sparkle Roll Plaza and promises to celebrate British Music, Technology and fashion globally from Beijing.

We certainly do have high expectations on what  Triple Major is stocking for the upcoming season. Here is a picture of I.T. stylist Ivy Zhang and her friend who dressed up for the preview party last saturday.

Lin Xiaotian and Wang Jing are students at China’s Renmin University where spring finally arrived this week. Like most students, they are enjoying the sun on a walk across campus with their friend An Jia.

Part-time model and editor Jesse is wearing a coat that he designed and had made himself.

Here is anther well-dressed fellow that I met in 798.  He is standing in front of the legendary “tank” that hosts so many fashion events.

She is rising actress.

From Shandong province originally, Wang Ge is Associate Editor at Time Out and says he is not very interested in fashion generally.  His T-shirt was bought at the Midi Festival while his wife picked out the jacket at Dong Liang. Read More

A bit late, but here are some of the pics from the Ilaria show. She is a young lady from Hong Kong working for a major advertising company.

Antonio Bandini is the designer for Ilaria. He used to work under Valentino. His coat is from Prada, though I think he fastened the bow-tie on the lapel. Currently there are no plans for an Ilaria menswear collection though China might be a better place if there were. There isn’t really a local brand for boys that is stylish – but not painfully avant-garde like the work of most young designers – in high-quality fabrics and simple cuts.
Despite the name, the brand Ilaria is based in China and founded by a Chinese woman, though the designer is Mr. Bandini, an Italian. Hereare pics of the looks that were on show. “>Here are pics of the looks that were on show. The founder of the brand Ms. Ilaria He formerly lived in Italy.

This dandyish individual was quite unimpressed by the Septwolves show. Click here for pictures of all the looks. Several editors I spoke with nearby were also very negative, saying if they were going to copy Western shows, the Fujian-based brand should have at least copied well.

After the Septwolves by Daniel Faret show, she works in sales atBazaar but one suspects she might have worked formerly as a model or perhaps still be doing part time work. Links to pics from that show to come.

After the Dorian Ho show, he was in town from Hunan for China and did not want to give his name or career.
